My name is Jake Guest. I am the owner/operator of Killdeer Farm, a 50+ acre vegetable farm on the Connecticut River in Norwich, Vt. I grow certified in-ground tomatoes in four greenhouses. I was shocked to learn that the NOP allows hydroponic tomatoes and, I assume, other greenhouse vegetables to be organically certified even though the NOSB has almost unanimously recommended that it not be allowed. The NOP has got to be kidding! No other major producing country allows this...including Canada and Mexico! That hydroponic growing can be certified is a major contradictiion in that it cuts out the very heart of what orgnic means: feeding the soil to feed the plant. Please, pay attention to us and the NOSB!
